Hi! thanks for the great topic. I just wanted to share that I’ve had The Keeper menstrual cup for a few years now. I LOVE it! It really isn’t as demanding as your above interpretation.
I paid about 30 bucks for it, and have not bought tampons or pads in 3 years. This is not to say that you couldn’t do a combination (this is what I planned), but after the first few awkward periods of getting used to how frequently i need to empty it (ie: you don’t have to take out and rinse every bathroom visit), I never looked back. It is so much easier to have only one little thing to get me through what has now been years of monthly bleeding!

If you get really daring, you can pour that highly nutritious monthly cocktail into your favorite house plant ;)

I tried the divacup. Maybe I'm not doing it right, but it leaks. Constantly. Just a slow steady stream of escaping blood. Not pleasant at all. The stem also scratches the opening, and I've gotten an infection. Twice.

My next stop is reusable cloth pads. My son has cloth diapers, and we love them, so I'm hoping cloth will work as well for me. I don't really know what else to do, so I guess it's worth a shot. I just wish they weren't so god-awful expensive.
